Northern Beaches Spring Concert - 7 September 2011The ProgramThe Northern Beaches Orchestra selected an exciting program of well-known classics for our event.
The Conductors Luke Gilmour, Conductor B. Mus, Grad. Dip. Ed. LRSM, L Mus. A.![]() He is also a Graduate of the University of North Texas Conducting Collegium and in November 2009, Luke was one of the semi-finalists in the Tintner Conducting Fellowship Competition. Since 2009, Luke has been the Music Director of the Sutherland Shire Choral Society and in 2011 Luke joined Stephen Williams as the Associate Conductor of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Wind Symphony. As an educator, Luke has developed a reputation of building strong and vibrant instrumental program and has just been appointed Director of Bands at Newington College. Joseph Nizeti, Guest Conductor Joseph is currently undertaking Honours studies in Musicology at the Conservatorium of Music, and has conducted several ensembles in the Sydney region during his time at university. Completing a conducting apprenticeship with the Lane Cove Youth Orchestra in 2009, he proceeded to act as musical director for The Pirates of Penzance (2009), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (2010) and Cabaret (2010) with the recently founded Manly Musical Society, performing at the Star of the Sea and Glen Street Theatres. In addition to conducting the Northern Beaches Orchestra on two occasions during 2010, minor work with other ensembles included the premiering of an original piece by a student of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the scoring and recording of contributions to short film soundtracks. He has more recently been working as a theatrical sound designer, improvising a live electronic score during the stage premiere of Elise Hearst’s Dirtyland this last April, and currently preparing to compose and perform piano works live for Bill W. and Dr. Bob, a dramatisation of the founding of Allcoholics Anonymous, at Carriageworks. Alex Pringle After graduating from Sydney’s Australian Institute of Music in 2001, Alex has maintained a busy career as a freelance violinist and violist with many of Sydney’s finest ensembles, including the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Sydney Chamber Orchestra and Arco. Since 2005, Alex has been a participant in the Symphony Australia Young Conductors Program and has stood in front of the Melbourne, Tasmanian and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras as well as the Queensland Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria. The program given him the opportunity to work with some of the finest conductors in the world, including Christopher Seaman, Johannes Fritzsch, Lutz Kohler and Arvo Volmer. Alex has also featured on ABC Classic FM's Rising Stars program conducting the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Alex now resides in Manchester where he is completing his Masters degree in Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music. Back to concert page © The Rotary
